Bubble and Squeak

bubble and squeak
Origin: English SlangDefinition: Mashed potato and cabbage leftovers that have been fried together.Example: Mom used the leftovers to make bubble and squeak for dinner (which actually a Brit would call "tea", not dinner).

One of my google words of the day was bubble and squeak! I had to post it here, my British husband has made bubble and squeak with Thanksgiving or Christmas leftovers...doesn't have to be potato and cabbage. It's great with turkey, stuffing, green bean casserole, corn, etc. (thanksgiving leftovers)...throw it all in a frying pan to warm it up. Yum! I reserve leftover candied yams on the side though, my FAVORITE holiday side dish I could eat as a main dish!

I'm hungry!

That's what my in-laws do with left-overs, eventually. I'm getting used to it, but I really don't like things all mixed together. I'm picky like that.

But I love that phrase "bubble and squeak". For some reason it reminds me of squeaky cheese curds... which now I have a craving for. Thanks. ;)
